Thrive Soccer Rules

5U Division:


Game Equipment and Format:


  • size 3 soccer ball
  • 4ft x 6ft Goal
  • 4 vs. 4 Player Format (No Goalie)
  • Games will be played in four 6-minute quarters
  • Coaches allowed on field with players
  • Officials loosely enforce rules to facilitate learning and emphasize player development, not competition.
  • Practice, including game time will be 60 minutes total, with teams practicing prior to each game for 30min.
  • One referee will officiate each game
  • Team Size: 8 players maximum per team
  • Running clock, with stoppages at the end of quarters, for substitutions and for injured players.
  • All players are required to have soccer cleats and shin guards.
  • Headers are NOT permitted in this age group.
  • Offsides is NOT enforced in this age group.


Kickoffs:


  • Rock paper scissors will determine the beginning possession of the game. The opposite team will start the 2nd half.
  • Player from awarded team will kick off from the center field circle. Players will stand a minimum of 5 yards away from the ball on their respective sides of the field for kickoffs.
  • Kickoffs will be indirect kicks, and must be touched by another player before a goal is scored. 


Substitutions:


  • All players should play a minimum of 50% playing time
  • Players may be substituted during stoppage of play with the assistance of the game referee. There should be at least one stoppage for substitution per half. 



Out of Bounds/Inbounding:


  • Sideline out of bounds will be re-inbounded with a kick-in from the spot where the ball exited the field of play.
  • If the ball exits the goal line and was last touched by the offensive team, a goal kick will be utilized by the defensive team to inbound the ball.
  • If the ball exits the goal line and was last touched by the defensive team, a corner kick will be utilized by the offensive team to inbound the ball.


Scoring and Fouls:


  • A goal is scored when the ball completely crosses the goal line. 
  • Penalty Kicks are not awarded. All fouls or educational stoppages will result in a drop ball at the spot of the stoppage. Fouls are not strictly enforced in this age group and are utilized for the safety and education of the participants. 


Defense:


  • All Players will play both offensive and defensive positions. 
  • No slide tackling or aggressive stealing is permitted
  • Colored wristbands may be utilized to help players with defensive assignments.


Safety:


  • Safety is our #1 priority for our players.
  • Any players that demonstrate excessive aggressive behavior such as hitting, pushing, kicking, spitting or any other inappropriate behaviors will be removed from the court of play to ensure player safety.

7U Division:

  • Team Size: 12 players maximum per team
  • Running clock, with stoppages at the end of halves, for subsititutions, and for injured players.
  • All players are required to have soccer cleats and shin guards.
  • Headers are not permitted in this age group.
  • Modified Offsides is enforced in this age group.

  • Officials enforce rules to progressively to facilitate learning and emphasize player development while maintaining a level of competition.
  • Practice, including game time will be 75 minutes total, with teams practicing prior to each game for 20min.
  • One referee will officiate each game
  • Team Size: 15 players maximum per team
  • Running clock, with stoppages at the end of halves, for subsititutions, and for injured players.
  • All players are required to have soccer cleats and shin guards.
  • Headers are not permitted in this age group.
  • Modified Offsides is enforced in this age group.
